PHILANTHrOPY

We know that every individual has the power to make a difference and shape the world in a positive manner.

Sometimes it just requires a little support.

In 2015, we established the Qube Charitable Foundation, a registered public foundation based in Western Canada. Employing the same stewardship principles as Qube Investment Management, we aim to make philanthropy simple, effective, and impactful.

Foundations can and should lead to social progress.

We ensure that the charities we support have developed and deployed efficient solutions to identified societal problems, meaning we do the legwork. We are looking to be not only a source of funds, but also a partner in driving real change. Our mission is to provide resources that help:

    • relieve poverty,
    • advance education,
    • promote religious principles,
    • encourage the arts,
    • and other causes beneficial to your community.

We designed two philanthropic portfolios: The People and The Planet.

THE PEOPLE

Save the Children Canada

Every Last Child

Save the Children works globally to serve those children who are hardest to reach, do not have access to essential services, and are, therefore, unable to realize their fundamental rights. Including Save the Children Canada in the “People” portfolio means supporting poverty alleviation, education initiatives, women and indigenous rights, in addition to human rights. By focusing on children, this organization, more specifically, targets problem areas to see growth. They are reaching the most vulnerable locally, nationally, and globally.

Habitat for Humanity (Edmonton)

Home Ownership Breaks the Cycle

Habitat for Humanity Edmonton was founded in 1991 and continues to serves communities in Edmonton and beyond (Fort Saskatchewan, Slave Lake, Rocky Mountain House).  Habitat Edmonton eliminates barriers to a better, healthier, and more financially stable life. They hope to help Habitat homeowners achieve the strength, stability, and independence they need to build a better future for themselves and their families. Habitat Edmonton works to give a “hand up” and not a “hand out.” Families contribute sweat equity hours towards the attainment of their future home.

Indspire

Educating for Future Growth

Founded in 1985, Indspire helps Indigenous students in Canada complete their post-secondary education. Indspire is a national Indigenous-led registered charity that invests in the education of Indigenous people for the long-term benefit of these individuals, their families, communities, and Canada. Their vision is to enrich Canada through Indigenous education and achievement. Based on impact per dollar donated, Indspire was a top ten finalist for Charity Intelligence’s Top 10 Chosen Charities (2017).

Discovery House

Domestic Violence Ends Here

Discovery House works not only to give women hope but the chance to start again. They facilitate transitional housing, offering longer-term, safe places for women and children to call home while they begin rebuilding their lives. They also provide mothers access to counselling, support and programs to ensure they never return to abusive partners. Working directly with children, they mitigate the effects of trauma to prevent the cycle from repeating.

Edmonton’s Food Bank

Relieving and Preventing Hunger

Edmonton’s Food Bank (EFB) was born through the realization of two factors by a small number of individuals: hunger was affecting the lives of many and edible food was being wasted in their community. Edmonton Food Bank works to reconcile these two realities, channeling surplus food to those who are experiencing food insecurity. Each month, more than 12,000 people receive hampers from Edmonton’s Food Bank or one of the over 160 agencies, churches, or food depots with which the bank is affiliated. In 2017, EFB volunteers contributed more than 85,126.5 hours.

Nature Conservancy of Canada

A Force for Nature

As the country’s largest national land conservation organization, the NCC has worked to protect 2.8 million acres across the country. They are recognized by many for their good governance and financial transparency. Financial Post’s 2017 annual report, a review of 2,500 Canadian charities, named NCC one of the top environmental and conservation charities in the country.

World Wildlife Fund

Protecting Natural Riches

WWF-Canada conserves the environment by running conservation programs, raising public awareness about the importance of the environment, and granting money for conservation research projects. WWF divides its program efforts into five conservation areas: arctic, freshwater, renewable energy, oceans, and species protection. In 2017, more than 77,000 WWF volunteers removed 126,432 kg of waste from Canadian shorelines.

Clean Air Partnership

Stability & Resilience Through Collaboration

The Clean Air Council includes a network of 28 municipalities and health units from across Ontario. Since 2000, Clean Air Council members have worked collaboratively on the development and implementation of clean air, climate change, sustainability and resilience actions. They promote clean air by collecting research, transferring knowledge, and fostering collaboration among all orders of government, academia, NGOs, and stakeholders.

EcoJustice

Building the Case for a Better Earth

EcoJustice goes to court and uses the power of the law to defend nature, combat climate change, and fight for a healthy environment for all. Their strategic, innovative public interest lawsuits lead to legal precedents that deliver lasting solutions to their most urgent environmental problems. They join together supporters, lawyers, scientists, board and staff members to fight for the environment’s protection.

Through careful research, we chose high-impact organizations to diversify and maximize your charitable investment. You may invest in one or allocate funds to both.

If you want to inspire social change with your philanthropy, partner with us. We are stronger together! Let us help you define and deploy a philanthropic program that reflects your values, goals, and aspirations.

The Quigley Family Fund

This is the initial fund held by the Qube Charitable Foundation, seeded from proceeds of a corporate divestiture. Ian and Stacey Quigley hope to model responsible philanthropy to their daughters by seeking high impact grant opportunities with charities and educational institutions offering maximum impact.

The Wendy Cassady Memorial Fund

The Wendy Cassady Memorial Fund was established in 2016 by Wendy and Noel Cassady as a way to support the social causes that they are passionate about long into the future. With a significant one-time donation, a twenty-year plan was developed to support faith-based, art, and social justice causes. A significant long-term grant was negotiated with the Chester Ronning Centre of the University of Alberta’s Augustana Campus to support interfaith studies, as well as grants for art scholarships, inner-city hot lunch programs, and literacy efforts.

Create Your Own Fund

You may want to establish your own fund within the Qube Charitable Foundation. There is power in the pooling of resources and donations. For as little as $100,000, you can establish your fund. Your own charitable fund will allow for the segregation of its investment management, granting goals, and time perspectives.

If you have an interest in setting up your own fund, be assured:

    • You will receive management advice, performance measurements, and operational efficiency, in addition to financial support.
    • You can determine where the grants will go specifically or direct our trustees to contribute to organizations by category.
    • You decide whether donations and endowed funds are made public or kept private.
    • We report all foundation activities to our donors in a highly transparent manner.
    • We act free of political or governmental influences.
    • We invest for highly efficient social impact.

Take action today, and make your philanthropy matter.
